Oh!Shit!

At any rate, It can hardry see all of it,
I think that the old thread lists is not necessary.
How do you think ?

FUCK OFF

>>4
I don't agree with your proposal.
Because there might be people who want the old thread lists.

>>6
Yes, people do sometimes want the old threads, but wouldn't it be better to just have a webpage with the list instead of pasting it in every thread?
I think it is less common that someone would want the backlog of this type of thread.
In the end it doesn't really matter though as the list only takes up a few posts.

>>7
Indeed the list takes up a few posts in this thread, but you make too much of it.
It's just one-fivehundredth of this thread.
You are too sensitive.

Hermione still loves her booze

That Emma's idiotic fan should know she's no angel. Emma drinks a lot.

As I see it, Emma loves smoking too.

How does that make you a bad person?

There was a small film here made in 1989 called "UHF" which is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen. I don't know how well it would translate overseas, as it requires being familiar with US television to appreciate.

I also find "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" very funny (as well as other films by Mel Brooks):

Instead of [undergoing] analysis, they get rid of their inhibitions with

The representatives of the US were weak. That's why they lost in spite

That's the most my concerns

Do you know about BoA? She is a beautiful singer.

BOA is big serpants which are equipped with 2 large poisonous fangs.
I don't feel it fear, not beautiful.
The word of Beautiful exists for my Maki chan.

What're you saying? BoA is from South Korea. She sings, and
people live her very much because she's cute as well as a good singer.

A boa is a big serpent which is NOT equipped with 2 large poisonous fangs.
A boa snake is equipped with two fangs, however most boas strangle their prey
to death.
ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Puerto_Rican_Boa
ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-tailed_Boa
to show two examples.

Snakes are rather beautiful, especially the Rainbow boa, in my opinion.
The artist BoA doesn't look to bad either. But if there's one thing you
should fear, it would be to be trapped in a swamp with a giant anaconda.

It is confusing that there is a music group called Boa other than BoA.

Both are quite similar for me.

Do you know what's happening in France? The Japanese media said the goverment
of France is trying to enact a law and if it comes into effect younger employees
are easily fired. French graduate students are protesting against it.
And labor unions are sceduled to demonstrate too.
I am impressed. Historically, the civilian revolution (I don't know
how to describe it correctly in English though) occurred there.
French people still have the guts to seek for their own rights.
That's why I am thinking good of them.

What I have in mind is that if the Koizumi administration does wrong
we will not stick up for what we believe in. I mean, if there are people

I know Cuba is one of the best baseball contries in the world.
In fact, the contry won the gold medal in the Athen olympic.
They are well trained and really tenatious, and according to the
official record, Japan has won againt Cuba only 4 times out of 36
matches. I must admit we have gone through a rough period so far.
However, things were different then from now. That official data
finds evidence that Japan will beat the opponent this time.
After Japan's professional baseball players
made a team, they have never lost against Cuba.
I'm way sure we will become the first champion of WBC.

No, you don't need to feel sorry. Don't take this the wrong way, but
as I see it, topics about idols are sort of easier to share with casual aquaintance
like in this thread. For one thing, people in the English board seem to hasitate to
put into English what they want to say. They are worried about both grammatical mistakes
and misspellings, because in general Japanese people don't have chancecs to communicate
in English and they love to find fault with others. For another,
in such situation, they want to know whether people who they talk with are friendly enough
to have a chat. The point is, Japanese want to make the first contact with others as casual as possible.
So idols topics become a "hello-how are you doing" kind of stuff
in the thread in a sense, so to speak. The more replies are bandied,
the more relaxed they become. After that, they start talking about
more serious matters like senia officail's corruption or international goodwill,
and how things are like in overseas contries.
In conlusion, idol topics are just a introdution.
As a matter of fact, I tried to talk about baseball just a while ago, but
it didn't get so much attention.

*I hope many more people in the English board don't hasitate to
write in English..

some of them tend to cling to idols topics after making sure other posters are
not offensive, though. But that doesn't mean all idol fans talk only about idols.

What's your opinion about minors drinking a lot in public?
Memebers of the baseball club ofKomadai Tomakomai drank and made fuss
in a family-style pub and someone report to the police before
the perincipal of the high school decided to give up participating in
the nation-wide baseball competition held in spring.
The massmedia implied that they asked for it, and high-school baseball players
must be an examplary people. But looking back on how it is like when I went to high school,
not a few people drank alcohol, so to me it's gone too far to give them such a punishment.

Speaking of alcohole, Emma Watson was photographed when she took a sip of colona beer.

But I guess I was wrong. After the previous

>i think many japanese are naive in this point.
I know what you mean. A rule is a rule, whatever is written in books.
That's the way many Japanese think. But concerning the law about old household
appliances, some people/organization/musicans have been against it, because
they live by selling used goods or they produce music by old music instruments.
They had a point. There's no reasonable argument to drop old and used things.
It is going back to a former generation to creat as many mechanical things and consume
them. We should try our best to re-use anything if possible, because we have limited
resorces on the earth. It sounds silly for the Japan's authorities to ban its people from recycling
old stuff. It's just my opinion, though..

I even use different style within the same post sometimes.

What is there is a law that left-handed people have to wear a badge and are discriminated against?
There are natural laws that exist even higher than government. It is right to stand up to government at times.
Do you not agree? Government must be based on consent of the governed. Thus if people do not think that laws are just they should be changed.
This is the concept of Plato, Locke, Hobbes, and Rousseau.

Cricket is absolutely popular, espesially in the UK, Australia,
and New Zealand, I think. Have you ever watched a movie like Maurice or
something? They play Cricket in the movie and you'll know
what it is like. It seems fun to play, rules seem a bit complicated though...

Cricket is complicated to play, but the basics can be picked
up if you watch a few hours of it with someone who knows
what's going on.

Basically you have two batsmen (batters) at the end of a 10 m area with
a large field around them. The bowler (pitcher) throws the
ball and bounces it towards one of them (for six throws, then
switches). The two batsmen have to reach the other end in order
to score a run, and can keep running until they think they'll get
out. A batsman stays in the game until he is out.

There are eleven ways of getting out, most of them like in baseball
but with the addition of being stumped (there are three posts behind the
batter with tiny spindles on top. If they get knocked off by the
bowl or the batsman, he's out).

The real fun is that the bowler is allowed to hit the batsman with
the ball (as long as it's not intentional), so professional players
can get pretty banged up in the course of batting for an hour or two.

(Professional matches go for either one day/eight hours or five days/
fourty hours.)

The short and obvious answer is:
practice, practice, practice.
Study theory and USE that theory.
Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Failing isn't making
a mistake, it's actively refusing to learn from your mistakes.

But yeah, read English and speak with people in English. Even if your
vocabulary is very limited you're bound to pick up new stuff.
You could also always do some chatting with people, either via text
or audio. Skype is useful for voicechatting and any instant messenger
service will do, as long as others have it to (I'd recommend one of the
four most common programs: MSN Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo
Instant Messenger, ICQ).
Listening to audio / watching TV-shows/movies in English is good too.

My English is far from perfect but I can always do some chatting
on AIM with you if you wish. You should probably gett some English
penpals too, if not also chat-buddies.

>>244
First of all, don't use such words as "ain't" unless you are reasonably comfortable with these words.
You'll end up being regarded as some kind of stupid person
if the words you use don't fit in the context in which you intend to convey what you have to say.
But also don't be afraid of using the words or phrases you've recently learned if you think they can convey your intention.

The difference is whether you use the words only because you want to use them, or you use them because you think they convey what you want to say.

"I like hearing English", for example, sounds queer in this context
but you can get across what you want to say.
In contrast, "I ain't have any penpals" can be perfectly understood but sounds VERY silly in this context.

You need to be more accepting of usage that is not the vernacular.

>>245
I agree that "I like hearing English." sounds odd. I would probablysay "I enjoy listening to English being spoken." or some such.
I do believe that "How to get to know such people?" is even more awkward though.
"How would I find such a person?" would be how I would state it.

READING SECTION

Read this passage and answer the questions bellow.

When you deduce the genesis of a word, it is useful to start from the word’s face - that is: the word’s spell itself.
The word ‘technical’, for instance, can be deduced to stem from the noun ‘technic’ ,if you have learned the formula:
additional ‘al’, when they accompanies to the noun that ends with ‘c’, make a noun to a adjective.
Surprisingly, it make ture if you are foreigners and it happens even you are from the country where not-Germanic-group languages is the mother tongue.
Let me clarify it. Take the word ‘Sakabuta’for instance. If you’re Japanese, what come upon your mind when you read this word first time?
Isn’t it a ugly unearthy figure playing soccer and putting on soccer uniform though they ’re not human?
And dosen’t this curious association make you laugh? Then, can you explain how this whole process - read the word THEN result in laugh - happen?
To your surprise, it can be explained by using the same quatation I wrote above in case of English word ‘technical’.
First of all, you see the word ‘Sakabuta’with first two words‘Saka’ spalled in Katakana then ‘Buta’ in Kanji.
‘Saka’, when spalled in Katakana, would well make reader associate it with soccoer and ‘Buta’ literally means pig, the symbol of ugliness and idleness.

QUESTION
[A]Choose the item that fits the blank most correctly.

According to the passage, the term ‘Sakabuta’represents [ ].

A:the monster that lives in the internet
B:the imaginary figure who is made by Yakibta’s imagination
C:the ugly unearthy monster playng soccer
D:the abusive person who have no job and dosen’t attend any school so have nothing to do but attacking baseball

[B]Write the short essay about ‘Sakabuta’. You must use at least 10 words and must not use over 20 words.

Speaking of Americans, I remember Sasha Cohen failed to get a gold medal
in the world figure skating competition held yesterday. She missed a few
jumps but other than that she did great, though. I did hope she won the medal,
so I was let down a bit.

Sasha looks as if she were a beartiful dool. I like her a lot.

The media report I saw yesterday said a US travel company had organized a tour of a Japanese
manga/anime festival and some 20 participants visited it. The festival featured Miyazaki Hayao's son's next anime.
A tour conductor said he wanted to bridge the cultural gap between the US and Japan and help foster mutual understanding.
It was impresive that there were real fans of Japanese mangas who wanted to come visit Japan.
Anyway, the travelers are going to pay a visit to Akihabara today, said the reporter.

Yup, geeks are universal.
No gaps, literally.

>>287

There's a company in the US called "Pop Japan Travel" that do
trips to Japan every three months. They visit a couple of anime
studios (GONZO, MADHOUSE, and Toei are the most common) and
Akihabara. It's not just otaku stops, though, and they do visit some
more traditional tourist spots such as temples, Tokyo Tower, etc. I'd
love to go on it sometme, but the trips are VERY expensive ($2000 for a
week plus airfare to Los Angeles). As it is I have to put off going
to Germany again (I wanted to go for Christmas this year to see Starlight
Express and Elisabeth).

>>289
That's good news. I know there are a bunch of manga fans around the world because
I have had a chat with some of them here in this chatting thread, but I didn't know they come to see such
studios. They are self-starters, aren't they?

And I'm sorry to hear that getting around in Japan needs so much money.
Come to think of it, Tokyo and Osaka are very expensive places in the world.

Not to change the subject, but things have changed where I live.
When I was yonger, almost no overseas people were
nothere to be seen, but today I see not a few of them when I take the train.
Of course, I don't try to speak to any one of them, but I guess
they say Japan's cost of living is higher than expected.

>>290
Do you want to speak to them? If so, what is stopping you?

I wouldn't think they would need to be trying to start a manga company though.
They just want to meet the people that made some of their favourites and see how it is done.

>>291
Well, because I wouldn't speak to people I don't know on the train, especially when I have nothing to share with them.
And I believe most Japanese people's way of thinking is the same as mine.
Do you think you could possibly talk to strangers with nothing in common?

As for online conversation like we do here, some foreigne manga fans were
passionate and talkative, so I had a good time with them. Recently, though,
I haven't met the ones I talked with before.

This thread is quite quiet.

Fans come to see the creative team and learn about the process
behind making the titles they like to see. Personally, I'd want
to see the list of studios before signing over my money...I tend
to prefer titles by GAINAX and Sunrise, but I'm also not typical
amongst US fans (who prefer GONZO by far if DVD sales and what's
on TV are anything to go by). Directors, designers, etc. are
also frequently invited to US fan conventions where they talk
for an hour or so about what they've worked on, answer questions
from the fans, sign autographs, etc.

As far as starting a company in the US to sell anime and manga,
the industry got too big over here in 2004, and put out more
product than the fans were willing to buy. As a result there was
a bit of a crash, and now is a horrible time to start a company
in manga or anime (unless you're a large corporation looking to
branch into the market).

As far as what I'm reading manga-wise lately, the first English
volume of "Monster" by Urasawa Naoki just came out over here and
I can't wait for the next book to come out. I've seen the anime
for "Yawara!" and "Master Keaton", so getting anything new from
Urasawa is exciting.

Lastly, did anybody here go to Tokyo Anime Fair? If so, did you
see a man with a goatee, green felt hat, and yellow ukelele? (He's
an acquaintance of mine.)

>>294
I'm afraid I didn't go to the Fair, but in the TV news show yesterday,
a band of American travelers from teenagers to in their 40's were visiting it,
and the reporter interviewed some of them. So he may have appered on TV, but
I don't remember there were anyone wearing a hat.

Urasawa's mangas are read by even adults here. In fact, Master Keaton and Yawara!
were made into anime. By the way, do you know Detective Conan? It's my favorite anime
currently broadcast in Japan.

Sorry to interupt you, but I'd like to hear about something.
Has Dragon Quest been broadcast in the US? As far as I know,
Dragon Quest (American people may call the RPG "Dragon Warrior")
is a video game. In Japan, the game became an animated TV show,
and I found it very interesting as a kid. There are fan sites of
the anime, and they want the company to make the DQ anime DVDs.
If you are curious, take a look at one of the sites.
ttp://www.ahww.or.jp/ani/tel_dq/dq_cels.htm
Even if you don't read Japanese, I'm sure you can enjoy the images
uploaded on the site.

>>295

I love Detective Conan, but haven't watched it for a while. They
changed all the character names for the English dubbed version (Shinichi
is now Jimmy, Ran is now Rachel, etc.) and I haven't had the money
to buy (or time to rent) any of the DVDs in order to get the
subtitled version past episode 50 or so.

Sadly, Detective Conan was considered a failure on US television. It
was considered too violent to play during child friendly hours, even
on cable, and ended up being shown during a 14+ block at
some crazy time like 23:00 or 23:30 between reruns of Futurama
(a sci-fi comedy from the creator of The Simpsons) and something more
teen oriented like Cowboy Bebop or InuYasha.

>>296

I asked a friend of mine who's into games, and she says that she
believes that a poorly overdubbed and heavily edited version aired
in the US in the 1980's. She also believes that it only aired on
a handful of independent stations (as opposed to the major networks).
The cels look very pretty, too...I miss the look of hand painted
animation.

Long train, bus, and plane rides are boring so why not have a chat?
Some people would like to be left alone, but I can normally tell if they are not interested.

There's a lot of pessimistic lit in western SF, but I'm not sure I can
recommend an author that's quite in the style you want. You may want
to try the works of Robert Heinlein, Kurt Vonnegut, or Ursula K. LeGuin.
For non-SF, Goethe is a good read, as are any of the dystopians.

Today's newspaper says that American beef will be exported to Japan this coming June.
Why did Japan decide to admit that the excuse that US beef is properly processed is acceptable
after the breach of contract? I suspect Bush urged Koizumi to import it even if it is BSE-infected.
I hear the poll showes that the popularity rate of Bush has declined, what with the iraq war and
the patriot act, so he needs to regain his popularity from his supporters. What a pity.
Japan shouldn't import supposed BSE-contaminated beef, as long as US follow the Japan's code of
how to process beef.

What's your opinion on that?

I'm scared of what they put in my beef.

But if exporters have to make sure the beef is safe, why the hell
don't they care about what we the people of America eat on a daily
basis?

He's must be looking through a directory to serch for her apartment.

He's so deeply in love with her that we can't understand what's on his mind.
He will do whatever he thinks needs to find and approach her. I hope she'll use her best caution.

We can't find out how old is that stalker?

I'm afraid it's impossible. One important thing we know is that
he always wants to talk about her whenever we are having a chat about other things.
That makes me think what he usually thinks is only about girls, especially teenaged girls.
I'm worried that he might go to extremes.

Hell, everyone.
I'm looking for a good text book for effective usage of prepositions.
For example, I always mix up "on" and "of." I can't tell the difference between "analysis of" and "analysis on."
When I googled them, the former retrieves about 10 times larger results than the latter.
I guess "analysis of" would be natural for native speakers.
Do you have any ideas or recommendations?

Without Maki's fan, this thread becomes really quiet and boring.
We should let him talk about her.

Please, give him the benefit of the doubt. He just loves her so much
that he sometimes lose control of himself. He's a nice person himself.
Remember, love makes you blind! It's not his fault. If you ask me,
her beatifulness and prettiness makes him mad. And the more he talks
about her, the deeper his love goes. Your harsh attitude only makes
him all the more hardened. Please let him in this thread and consider
him as a best pal of yours. He's a good guy. We must treat him fairly!

that Maki would get popular and go on TV often when she still didn't. I'm sure that
he can predict who will come up next.

Anyway, I believe he deserves Maki because he did see through her!
He can get married to her and become elated!

in Tokyo. Tokyo is a great place but is very expensive and stressful.

I haven't been here for several days to hit upon a good strategy to make angel Maki chan happy when I marry her.
By the way, Have you seen a drama pn Earthquake in Tokyo on Nittere at 9 last night.
The drama gave me strong shock , but I decided myself I must protect my angel Maki chan from many dangers when big quake occurs.

As you said, Tokyo is the most expensive place in the world, MAS.
To be truthful, I don't like it. Though Japan has become one of the
greatest debtor nation, roughly 7 trilion yen, we still have to
use money more than actually needed. I'm worried that we will go in
financial squeez when we are awake from a dream in which we
believe Japan has good enough money. We live in a relatively good condition,
all because we have borrowed huge money.

More importantly, I think you said you were worried about discrimination
against non-Japanese when you took a look at a website in which
someone said he felt let down when a Japanese girl closed a car window
as he came near her. Perhaps I said you don't have to worry about it, then.
How did things go? Was there a problem you encountered like the poster on the site had one?

I didn't really feel discriminated against during my 3 month stay.
During the first few weeks I was stared at quite a lot, but as I
grew accustomed to acting and dressing in a more Japanese fashion
the staring stopped almost entirely.
What surprised me most was the morning rush-hour trains! I used
to take the Denentoshi sen all the way from Chuuourinkan to
Kudanshita, which is about an hour, every morning. The train
used to be so full I could literally not move. This really
shocked me during my first week but I got used to it after a
while. I'm really glad I don't have to endure the morning trains
during the summer - it must be unbearable.
As for debt, I don't really know much, but money and shopping
seemed to be the main theme of almost every thing on TV. The
program about the host bars in Ginza where a single bottle of
wine would be like 100 man en really shocked me.
In the UK people use credit cards for just about everything now,
and borrowing money is the norm. A lot of people have huge debts
but don't care at all.

Stop talking rubbish. Let's change the subject.

How do you feel about the situation we are put in here in this
chatting thread? Do you approve of Maki chan's fan who repeatedly
cliam that she comes from the heaven? Of course, she looks really
cute and hot, and actually she makes me feel comfortable,
but that doesn't mean he is allowed to make us queasy.

I get it. But the problem here is, how can we do that.
He also has the right to have a chat with us and have a good time
talking in English. Oh, and first of all, he can stay anonymous
and if he hopes he can use assumed names, there are many Maki chan's
fans getting around. So all we can do is talk him out of it, isn't?

Yeah, you have a point. If he left the thread, it would go very quiet.
As a matter of fact, I'm of two minds whether he should be let go or he
must be here to stay. It's just like a dillenma. We have to pay
some price if we want to keep this thread energetic, but we have to
make more efforts to make the price as small as possible.
What do you think we all get banded together and ask him to talk about
other stuff than idols. I believe he's kind. You see?
Talking about girls a lot doesn't make him a bad person. We have
to be patient before he can control of himself. What do you say?

It might be an idea to stop talking about masterbation.

Another choice is, we just ignore him. I don't want to take this
action to make him calm, though. But if he persists in clinging to
idols, then saddly there's no other way out!

529 :SARIE:2006/04/04(火) 12:20:42
Yes, that is the way to go!

Personally, idols conversation might be conducted here.
A, because it takes time to learn about what we should chat about.
B, because no one can decide what should be talked about.
And C, bacause for most part, males love females and females males.
The thing is, he should offer us more alternatives. Maki chan is not
a single idol in Japan. There are more idols we can share information with.
I mean, if he knows about other idols, he must talk about them.
That makes us think his knowledge will be drawn on when we want to know
our own preferable idols.

Today's newspaper says that confidential information of the police reports have been flowing on the syberspace
through the software called Winny.

For those who don't hear about the software, let me tell you what it is in brief first.
Winny is a computer program by which people can exchange data on your computers
from one to another. And the Japanese media recently has focused on the problem that data obtained through winny
sometimes contain computer virus, causing your important and secret information let loose on the net.

Today, an infected computer which belongs to a police officer uploaded crucial cop manuals and
reports. And to our surprise, one of the reports showes that the police falsified documents and
gave imaginary informants some money as a token of appreciation. According to the news article I read,
several murder cases are cooked up and some guys were arrested on false and invented statements.
Isn't that mad?

Although I haven't installed Winny because I don't know much about computer and
the Japanese government told its people to delete it from your computer, there isn't
no need to do so. Why? The software helped reveal the fraud scheme, which could've been
carefully contained in the computer, and we wouldn't have known the gloomy side of the police.

Well, what do you think about the incident?

>>530

I have no problem with idol fans on the thread as long as they
speak in English and keep the conversation in good taste.

>>550

This case shows both the power of the internet and the
inadequacies of the Japanese police. If the media run with
this (and aren't hushed by the government), it could be a major
scandal. The police should be ashamed of themselves for being corrupt
and failing to serve the people.

Stupid question about travelling to Japan...
I'm going to do voluntary work in Japan soon and I have to go with a
tourist visa. So far I know that 1) Europeans can stay up to 6 months

have a return ticket if I wish to enter Japan.
So I'm kinda confused here... I want to stay for 6 months, but can I
have a return ticket which is dated at that time? After 3 months I'm
supposed to contact the authorities or something... How is this
matter usually handled in Japan?...and maybe I'm completely clueless,
so pls give me advice :)

What're you doing?

Have you ever undergone a MRI test?
I had my brain examined by that medical test in those days.
It was horrible.

I made an appointment and went to hospital. I got underground and
wait for a medical professinal to call me. It was 30 minutes before
I was called in a room where I got on something like a table and lay
on my back. My forehead and chin were holded by straps to snsure
that my head wouldn't move a little. The medical examiner got me a
small hand pump so that I can give them a signal if I felt nausiea during the MRI test.
After that, the board I was on moved and I went in the MRI machine.
And I found it very oppressing in there, what with powerful magnatic wave and
a continuous huge buzz as if I were at a construction site. What's more, this is
a complete mistery to me, but I felt as if something hit my forehead repeatedly, not physically,
but I felt an invisible hummer hit it. Nearly 20 minutes had passed before the
test got finished. It was a nightmare.

Fortunately, though, it turned out that there was nothing wrong with my brain.
By the way, you want to know how much it was to get through the medical checkup, don't you?
It's some 5000 yen.

How hard to get medical aid.

Ah, I thought medical examiners are people who use medical mathines and
see how good/bad patients are. But I seemed wrong.
I just used google searching engine and learned about what they are.
Could you tell me how to describe a person who uses a medical machine in English?
I didn't find out by myself.

English is too hard for me to learn. There are millions of words I have to know
to convey what I want to say.

5000 yen for an MRI is nothing. In the US, it would be more like

national health care here). I've never had to have one (thankfully),
but I sympathise.

>>649
I believe than an MRI operator would be a radiologist. Radiologists
also use CAT scans and X-Rays. The general term would be medical
technician.

The person running the machine is called a technologist/technician. They generally only have about the
same medical training as a paramedic or nurse and a lot of training on operating the equipment.

Ishihara Shintaro, the governor of Tokyo, stated today that he
had a concern about the fact that English would be taught in elementary school,
also said it was more important to learn Japanese and that school kids couldn't
learn about any knowledge on foregien contries until they mastered Japanese.

I was truly disappointed that one of the influential leader of Japan had a terrible
thing in mind. I thought my ear deceived me.

How dare he can make any comment on educational matters, now that he's decided to
close down half of the evening schools even though the UN asked him to try his best
not to do so. He shouldn't have said that.

The aggresive and derogatory governor once said the French language was no longer
worthy of learning because English became a common language and fewer french speakers
were in the world, which comment must be criticized if I'm not mistaken.

Do you agree or disagree with him?

Besides, Japanese is a lot closer to my heart. Beautiful language!

You're forgetting parts of Canada.

Personally, I believe that it's important to start students on foreign
languages as early as is possible, as it gets progressively harder
with age. As somebody who didn't have to seriously learn a second
language until university, I wish I'd been able to start earlier
(although I also know that I did not have the self-discipline necessary
at that earlier point).

Sorry to interupt, but I've heard before that the EU tried to
creat a history textbook that intergrades all europian histories
into one that all peoples in the EU can share with each other
such as German and France. I thought it took great efforts to
have the same perspective. So I'm curious to know how well it went.

As for Japan, South Korea and China, I heard some historians are working
side by side trying to write a new history book now.

Though I am high school grade3 student,I cannot understand your res.

>>756

I haven't heard about that, but it doesn't surprise me. The EU
is a bizarre socio-political environment in that it wants
standards across the Union for things like commerce and basic laws,
but also calls for individualism in promoting and protecting
national heritage. My guess is that this project may succeed
for general history classes, but that students will still be
required to take a couple years of localised national history.

For what it's worth, I live in the US, and the history textbooks
here are pretty terrible. I haven't had to look at one for a
few years, but they lack depth in order to cover 200-600 years
(American/European history) in the academic year. A lot of the
things I found most interesting in History at University (German
unification, the decline of the Habsburg monarchy, the Dutch
rebellion) were barely mentioned or omitted entirely from the
high school curriculum (though I did have two years of American
History that covered similar events, just in more depth later on).
European history was entirely optional at my high school, and
the only Asian history class (Japanese/Chinese/Korean)was not only
optional, but taught as a generic "World History" class which included
Africa, the US, and major European events.

I would be very interested in reading a combined Asian history book.

>>758
I see. Now that the UE is one of the biggest communities in the world,
both commercially and politically, it needs shared veiw on history.
At the same time, though, the more integrated textbooks are for
general history class, the more emphasis will be put on a localised national history.
The same would go for Japan. If the Asian history book is written,
I doubt it will be adopted as a schooltext book.

>>759

It's something like that. In the US, local history is taught
early on. I had city and state history in elementary school,
and we began (basic) world and national history in middle school.

European history is a lot more complicated, though. Because
Europe (as most people think of it) consists of about 20-30
independent nations, there's not an overarching "European"
history that stands on its own. There are some areas that can
be generalised (Roman Empire, Middle Ages, Napoleon, World Wars),
but even then regional differences are more notable versus, say,
the US civil war where things were similar across the North and
across the South. I took a class once on the role of the knight
in medieval Europe, and the structure of the fighters and Nobility
were radically different in England, France, Germany, etc.

If I were putting together an EU program, I would do general survey
twice - once before National history to enable a generic timeline,
and then again afterwards in order to show how things come together.

I am a man who see things in much broader perspective with bird eye's
view. So I wouldn't ramblie on about European history.

The aliens can be worms, not being developed to the shape of human being
so, maybe they can't read a textbook. It's likely that textbook made of paper
is what they eat, not what they read.^^

In my opinion, Benny looks like Blessed Virgin Mary.

from your mean angel Maki.

According to a TV report today, a South Korean male who was reportedly kidnapped
by North Korea proved to be the husband of Megumi Yokota. The husband's DNA corresponds
with their daughter. That usually would lead Japan and S.Korea to work side by side to
save them from NK, but things wouldn't seem to be easier. In Japan, kidnapping has become
a big problem and people are paying attention to what would happen next, but it's different
from SK. Because SK has been trying to make friends with NK and hopefully to get one country again,
they has almost overlooked the problem so far, as Japan didn't touch on it for long.
What action do you think the both of the government should take next?
If we go hard on NK, they may go away from the meeting held somewhere for NK to give up the
development of nuclear weapon. If we are soft on the country, they will never let kidnapped people
free.

From what I saw on TV, NBC, one of the American networks, broadcast
a news report that Megumi Yokota was taken away from Japan about 20 years ago
and she's still forced to live in NK, which has ambitions to have nuclear weapon
in hand to threaten surrounding countries.

I hear that an American couple created a documentary film named the story of Megumi,
and it sort of attacted attention.

I think that it would be good to continue having a casual English
conversation thread (vs. the Information Exchange thread which is
more academic in nature). If someone creates it, though, they would
probably be wise to also create a "Discuss Idols in English" thread
at the same time.

Back to being bored at work...

Please set up the next tread!!
I do not know how to complete it.

What makes this thread diry? Who's faulty?

I don't see your point. The thread isn't dirty at all. More like a clean one, really.
I would call a thread dirty if it's full of AAs and jeers in Japanese.

Anyway, I think casual conversation threads haven't been so much successful recently, neither in English
nor in Japanese. One reason I've come up with is that "hi, how are you?""I'm fine, thank you" kinds of
greetings are not so interesting. Another is, of course, idol fans have a control over the thread, which
in itself doesn't seem to be a problem to me, though. And the last and most crucial point is,
the theme of this thread is obscure, though it focuses on chatting..
What should we chat about? What do you want to talk about?
Well, what you want to discuss with me isn't appealing at all. Let's move on to another topic.
Oh, you don't like it? Well, ok. Bye then.
That is a typical thing that might happen to the thread. And it's
because the subject of the thread is too general for us to continue having a chat.

So it is about time that we created a bit more specified threads and decided on
what should be discussed in general in each thread, such as politics and sports and what not.

>>907

Perhaps the person who starts the next thread should choose
a topic for people to follow? Perhaps it could change every
250 posts on the thread?

>>908

Thanks for that. It brightened up a rather dull end of work day.

>>909
Just to clarify, what I wanted to say was:
I doubt there is a need for the next chatting thread. Instead, we should
devide it into more specific ones. If we had known beforehand what we had in common
except that we should talk in English, then things might've been different.

As far as I'm concerned, I wanted to exchange frank opinions about what's going on in your country,
especially about politics. But if there are those who wanted to have a chat about
Japanese anime and manga, I think they should creat a new thread.
You won't be bored when you talk about what you want to talk with people, will you?

>>910

I agree that many specific threads are good and will draw useful
targeted traffic, but there may be others who are scared off by
such detailed discussions using high level English. We should
keep the general thread around so that people can have a starting
point (and perhaps use it to spin off other threads).

>>911
I don't mean to offend you at all, but the general thread for what?
For those who insist that their angel has wings to fly around the world?

And you don't have to worry about your fluency in English. You can be
accepted anywhere if you try to get mixed up with people.
You don't have to write perfect English because it's too tough for almost
all non native English speakers who live in their non-English-speaking country.
Native English speakers are used to somewhat odd English online, and they
don't use a bad language about it. Non-natives don't need to be scared of
posting in English. English is a lingua franca, so they say.

Or do you think we need a "greeting" thread? Like this one?

I didn't notice Kimura kaela hadn't been on a TV show I used to watch.
She got really very popular for the past two years as a singer.
She sings well and she looks pretty cute.

I'd rather call K.Kaela an angel than Maki.

My angel Kaela chan looks absolutly beautiful and exotic. She's a
half Japanese.

In retrospect, we have some English speakers in the series of the threads, for example,
K-tan, MAS, and several anonymous posters. But they are all gone. Now is the time we should
bring it to an end and consider reforming this boring thread.

You might want to speak with Maki chan's fans whenever he turns up here.
Those with horrible things in mind to put an end to the thread will be expelled.
We're here to intoduce as many hot idols as possible to all idol fans, including

when they make eyes. I hope against hope that Maki chan will never

To put it briefly, one of the fans of Maki chan's will be seeing her.
But that doesn't mean I admit Maki chan is an angel. She's just a girl
standing right in front of a boy she loves.

You could say so, but I think you might overlook an important problem here.
She's not an angel. Compared to Yukorin, who came down to the earth, she was
born somewhere in Japan. And hey, you can't deny Maki chan's fart smells like
rotten eggs.

It's Hell for us to draw the fetters
Of life in alienation, stiff.
All people prefer to share gladness,
And nobody - to share grief.

As a king of air, I'm lone here,
The pain lives in my heart, so grim,
And I can see that, to the fear
Of fate, years pass me by like dreams;

And comes again with, touched by gold,
The same dream, gloomy one and old.
I see a coffin, black and sole,
It waits: why to detain the world?

There will be not a sad reflection,
There will be (I am betting on)
Much more gaily celebration
When I am dead, than - born.
