Shouldn't this be part 72 or 73? O.o;; There was up to part 69, then someone
created a thread named 68 and linked to 67 as previous, and then it appears as
if someone again created 69 and then 69 once more after that (i'm not sure on
that bit. The 69 now doesn't look the way I remembered the latest CiE part69
thread, so I assume there's yet another one, though I may be mistaken.

If you like to know the reason seriously, visit the URL below;

The Go Fuck Yourself Homepage

www.amishrakefight.org/gfy/

This page makes you download an Active X, a Quicktime application, etc.
It's really annoying, but still this can be called a great website for
learners who are seriously considering adding a brand-new yet really
awesome word that has been making history to your vocabulary.
It also has a great mp3 that lectures on the word. it's very
educational. I strongly recommend to take a listen to it.
Enjoy.

26 :或る醫學生 ◆jv9PhcfTmc :2006/11/19(日) 23:11:43
>>25
Like most Japanese people, I started learning English at the
age of twelve. So I've been learning English for ten years or
so. I guess that's not different from most of you here.
But the method that I was adopting was a little bit unusual.
I memorized every single word of the textbooks I used at school.
I read out and wrote down every single line. I kept on doing it
for about two years in junior high, then almost all the grammatical
mistakes disappeared.

Chicks dig the long ball.

Can you translate this sentence?

30 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 23:48:31
Of course he can, what makes you think he can't?

Hmm, It doesn't make sense to me at all.

I googled the sentence, and I found some website related to
baseball and Nike, and a Youtube video.

I don't understand what it means. Is there any hidden meaning
behind it?

32 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 23:52:32
what does long ball mean?

33 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 23:56:13
At least with google and a normal dictionary, you should be able to translate it
Long ball is chouda

34 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/19(日) 23:59:32
it means
Girls likes long ball

35 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 00:07:13
>>31
Actually, this sentence has two meanings.
1,Just girls like Home-runs at baseball.
2,Sometimes Home-run means sex.
1st base means kiss and 2nd base means xxxx...
In Japan, they called A,B,C...
So this sentence means "Girls like everything about sex"
Did you meke sense? Nike is very clever.

I have a question for Japanese. Do R and L sound completely the same to you?
Or can you hear a slight difference?

90 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 14:46:24
If they're spoken very slowly, many japanese can recognise the difference.
But when spoken natural fast, it's almost impossible to tell.

91 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 15:08:22
>>89
Well, they do not sound completely the same, however,
for e.g., Caroline and Marilyn Monroe could be difficult for
Japanese to pronounce correctly by only listening to the sound.
If we look at the spelling, we are OK.

92 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 15:51:47
Actually i don't have anything to add to the comments above but,
Now that ive ben laeerning engish for some time i can distingish them....with lots of difficulties, as you can tell by reading this, my english sucks and i have lots of learning english ahead of me
but back when i started they were cmopletely the same , but that was only when they were spoken relally fast.
When slowly spoken they are totally diffrent to any japanese people.
the trouble is we tend to tyr to understand everysound exists in the world in limited japanese pronuncations.
We tryto associate every enlish sound with a corresponding japanese sound( which is why so called katakana english exists, where all the pronuncations are substituted with japanese ones)
And l and r sounds are totally in the same domein of ra row sounds
so even when they know they are sensing some difference in how they sounds, they fail to think outside the japanese pronuncations box, and end up recognizing them as one of ra row sounds.

93 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 15:52:37
>>89
I also wish to ask...the video game "LocoRoco"...how could you tell the difference in japan!?

94 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 16:14:53
>>93
"L" of LocoRoco means Left buttom of PSP, "R" means Right buttom.
LocoRoco is played by using "L" and "R" buttom only.

Thank you for your answers. What about the word "world"?
It's particularly hard, isn't it? I don't think I've heard a Japanese person
pronounce it, but a Korean I know pronounces it the same as "word".
I suppose it is the same for Japanese people.

I've heard that it is difficult for non-Japanese people to
distinguish the pronunciation of:
kitte (stamp), kite (plese come) and kiite (please listen).

100 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 17:09:15
I get it
you are saying Japanese and Koreans look the same so pronounce the same.
what a racist. amazing

101 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 17:13:20
I think I can distinguish kite vs kiite or kite vs kitte, but I'm not sure about kitte vs kiite.

What is even more difficult is distinguishing 橋 vs 箸, 雨 vs 飴, etc. I think.

102 :89:2006/11/20(月) 17:18:01
>>100
Japanese and Korean language are both lacking R sounds.
That means that probably they have same pronuncation
in both languages.

103 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 17:20:03
>>101
I see.
As you may already know they are pronunced as the following:
haSHI(橋、端)vs HAshi(箸), and Ame(雨) vs aME(飴)in the standard Japanese,
but the placement of accents are different in the western part of Japan.

104 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 17:48:10
>>103
Well, I am aware of that, but I don't know if I can actually hear the difference. However, hearing Japanese has been much easier for me to learn than French.
I can recognize the sound of a Japanese word that I haven't heard before well enough to look it up, but I can't really hear the sounds of French word at all
unless I already know the word, I can't pronounce French words properly at all even if I do know them...

That's probably due to the "liason" in French, that is
although e.g. "ils" is pronounced as [il], when it is followed by
"ont," the two words are pronounced as [ilzon].
I don't think Japanese words liaise or run together like French.

Whether we japanese in general pronouce "world" correctly or not is unknowable for us, without you guys' all-distinguishing ears, you know?
I think I do it right ,and I'm sure the Korean guy thinks s/he does it right.
only you guys can tell.

Yes, that's true. Elision, such as "je ai" to "j'ai" is another problem.

I found a website on Google that has sound files from a Japanese news report,
and a script of what they said...

一部で障害もありましたが、 総務省では、大きなトラブルの報告はないとしています。
http://www.epochrypha.com/japanese/audio/001/yomiuri080502-02.mp3

In this one, I can't hear the 報告 part well. It sound like there is an "sh" sound in that part for some reason.
I wonder if "sh" and "h" ever sound similar to non-native speakers of Japanese.

113 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 18:27:17
I meant "it sounds". That was just a typo.

Oh. So she did. But that wouldn't make it difficult for a Japanese person to understand, would it?
When people make errors in English, I can still understand them anyway, if it's a small enough error.

116 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 19:23:07
She was like "sh... houkoku" so it was pretty obvious.
Even if she said shoukoku, it would still be obvious from the context.

120 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 19:37:51
I think she was mistakingly starting reading 障害, then she noticed
she was reading wrong and quickly tried reading 報告。

大きなトラブルの障害doesn't make sense at all but somehow she read wrong.

121 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/20(月) 20:32:34
In english okok
I sympahyise with the guy who asked about that sound clip.
You just can't tell it's normal or not when you don't know the language
In this case, she just made a mistake that's all. Nothing fansy about it.
But when you are learning Japanese, you just can't tell for sure
whether it's just a mistake or it's just how sometimes Japanese people speak

When I run into the same kind of problems in English, I could go crasy like
WTF? This sounds nothing like the script!!
Is the script right?
Does he really say what the script says?
He just stammers here or something?
Maybe sometimes this phrase is pronounsed this way for some unknown reason?

As much as i don't like this process coming up again and again,
I believe that experiense points on these things pile up slowly but steadily,
and that will eventually help me understand English better.
So I'm even looking forward to it now, no i lied im looking forward to the day when i don have to dael with it hehe

Ok, I'll challenge to explain for my training.

DQN originate in Japanese old tv program Totsugeki Dokyun(突撃ドキュン).
This program was showing the people who was naughty and bad guys when
they are teenager, but they were working hard for their family when they
became adult.
Above "naughty and bad" means, for example, that they drive a very noisy
turned motorbike in a group at midnight, or steal money of timid students,
or wear eccentric fasshion (they think it's cool).

One user of 2ch started to call people who has low lever I.Q. ドキュン. And
this name became popular to the other user.
For a while, ドキュン changed to ドキュン or ドキュソ, then changed to "DQN".

What makes you think so ?

237 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 00:20:25
Do you think that a baseball player, when he goes to bat, has ever farted in the face of the catcher? Whether it would be on accident or on purpose, I think the idea of that happening is funny.

238 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 00:28:43
I think it's a kind of tactics on the game of baseball. when a pitcher throws a ball, then a batter launches consecutive sukashi odor farts, a catcher fails to catch a ball.

239 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 00:36:12
Why does it have to be sukashi?

240 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 00:41:08
because sukashi is the smelliest among all kinnds og farts.

but these days he looks stubborn and too aggressive

I'm so jealous of you guys having a cool fall.
It's November, and it's still over 25℃ in the daytime and I need to use air-con since my room is too damn hot!
It seems a bit cooler today here because there is heavy rain outside, which seldom happens in November here.
I'm just wondering whether the end of the world is coming soon.

I am not Japanese, but I found it hard to understand what you wrote.
Because "ni" attaches to "hisashiburi" and not "kitara", and "mo" is really "mou", isn't it?
Japanese people often make it difficult to understand their writing when they use roman characters.

>>261
No. I am not the same person as 255. I understood what it meant by the way. I just meant that it was difficult, not that I could not.
I think 255 is Japanese. His English is similar to how most Japanese write English.

263 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 10:59:09
>>260
>Japanese people often make it difficult to understand their writing when they use roman characters

That's because roman characters are only used as a "guideline" for the convenience of non-Japanese people
who don't know how to read Japanese (including Chinese) characters.
So, since it is "not" the purpose of roman characters to perfectly represent the Japanese language in the first place anywway,
Japanese people don't bother so much to stick to the rules, but rather
play with them.

264 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 11:06:17

266 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 11:12:02

Well, the original purpose of the Roman alphabet wasn't to write English, either, but there are rules on how to use it.
Maybe that's the reason that English spelling is so mixed up. The Roman alphabet doesn't have enough letters to write
every sound in English. So we have to use combinations like "th", "ch", and "sh" or the same letter for multiple sounds,
like the "a" in "father" and "bat", or the "o" in "mobile" and "bot".

267 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 11:38:17
I can't pronounce the th sound, and I think it's the most irritating sound in english.
When teachers teach us how to pronounce it and say Th, Th,
I want to punch them in the face.

268 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/22(水) 11:42:13
My English teacher (American) forced his students to put their fingers in his mouth to make them
understand how the mouth and tongue interact when Americans pronounce
"r."

There's actually both voiced and unvoiced forms of th.
And as far as the r sound goes, that's even more complicated; see
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhotic_consonant

302 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/23(木) 09:13:22
Indian people pronounce "th" as "d," and the British "r" is pronounced much weaker than
the American "r," and these kinds of variations hold true for other pronunciations as well,
so there is no point in having a fixation about how to pronounce those sounds.

It says this site could be malicious. So, keet that in mind,
I just ignored the warning, though, lol.

do you actually know what an online RPG is like?
it's not like you play a single player RPG with a built in chat system.
you group with other people and fight monsters or other players, which requires a lot of
coordination and cooperation between each player in the group.
it's pretty awesomely fun if you like to hang out and communicate with foreigners online.

Anybody know whether Japanese holiday "Kinro kansha no hi"
has something to do with Thanksgiving day?
Both are about thanking something, and are on the same day.
Is it just a coincidence?

378 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 02:36:23
On December 4, 1619, the pilgrims (who were English settlers) had a thanksgiving dinner
with the Indians (native Americans), and it has been kept alive over
the years, I guess. It became a national holiday in 1863.

379 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 02:37:13

It seems Thanksgiving day is a big event.
I'm watching NBC and a huge festival is on.
I wonder what the biggest holiday is in America?
Is Christmas the biggest? Or Thanksgiving day has an edge?
What about Holloween?

386 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 02:48:21
>>382
Yes, it is a special occasion. Relatives get together to eat dinner
on Thanksgiving. The most common main dish is turkey, and there are
other common foods such as stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes,
sweet potatoes, and other things. People don't usually thank each
other, but some families say what they are thankful for. It's
a traditional part of a Thanksgiving dinner.

387 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 02:53:01
>>385
Christmas is definitely the biggest. It's hard to rank them, though.
Thanksgiving is bigger than Halloween, but I would say New Year's Eve
is bigger... The Fourth of July and Easter are big ones too, and
then there's Valentine's Day... It's hard to say which are bigger for me...
There are minor holidays too like President's Day, Martin Luther King Day,
Labor Day, Veteran's Day, St. Patrick's Day, and probably more...

388 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 02:53:30

I can't possibly do the same.
Japanese holidays are boring and hard to remember, I think.
Christmas day is the biggest hmm
That could be guessed by me if I thought harder
The rest of the holidays are difficult ones
Marin Luther King day is amazing

Martin Luther did not just die recently. He died in the 1960s.
He was shot to death while giving a speech, I think.

394 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 03:19:38
Martin Luther King, that is. Martin Luther died hundreds of years ago.

395 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 03:25:42
40 some years ago is pretty recent to me to have a holiday dedicated sololy to him considering other guys who' got their name on holidays.
When you think about it, just some 40, 50 years ago, black people were still considered second class citizens is amaazing
Of course I don't even know what Martin did to solve the problems.
I know what Marcom X did, because i watched a movie about him. hehe

396 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 03:36:49
oh now Ive noticed
It's martin luther king's day not Jr's day!
I was wide awake and stupid..

I'm pretty sure he must have been a great great person.

397 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/24(金) 03:42:16
It is called Martin Luther King Day, but it is really for MLK Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. led peaceful protests in order to win civil
rights for Black Americans. That distinguishes him from Malcom X,
who advocated violence. However, Malcom X evetually did change his
position on violence after converting to Islam.

One man was using peer to peer software like Winny and he got infected with
a virus and all of the photos stored in the hard drive of his PC was
drained into p to p network.

Some photos were his girlfriend's nude photo. One of them that shows
her butt looks like a hamburger. Her underhair was kind of bushy so
it is commonly called Ketsuge burger in 2ch community.

>>498
I don't know about you but at least it didn't get traumatic to me.
Call me hypocratic but I felt kind of sad thinking about her future.

There are still 1 or 2 phases to be finished.
Yet I have not visited any Disney Land Resort in the world so I can't make any comparison.
Dating spot... erm... You may say that. That's a place for fantasy, but not for hardcore exciting games.
That's why I prefer Ocean Park over Disney Land Resort since it has 2 roller coasters and more machines.

506 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/25(土) 03:31:09
>>505
Oh. It needs a final touch to be completed... I didn't know that.
You can visit Universal Studio Japan when you have a chance to visit
Osaka, Japan. I guess it has more exciting rides than Tokyo Disney
Land. I have visited neither of them though.

507 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/25(土) 07:01:55
I was surprised to know the photos are circulating on the net and
non-J people have seen them too.
Do you think non-J ketsuge burgers which we can get exist?

508 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/25(土) 07:15:12
First, western professional porn actresses tend to shave their pubic
hair so chances are slim.

Second, Western amateur girls shave thier pubic hair, too and chances of
getting thier photos are slimmer than professional porn actresses.

I have seen a website featuring girls who don't shave pubic and armpit
hair so the shortcut to seeing non-Japanese ketsuge burgers is to
visit that kind of website.

To have a Western girlfriend and make her grow her pubic hair and take
some ketsuge burger photos is another possibility but NEETs like you and
me have no chances to go out with a Western girl.

509 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/25(土) 07:26:36

Because it's just the way the Western cutoms are.

672 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/28(火) 10:04:15

They are similar to the extent that they are geographically very
close and had a lot of exchange of people, goods, and ideas in general.
While it is true that some things originated in one country and have
been adopted in another country, it is outrageous to claim that
everything originated in one country.

It means different for different people.
For some, god is about vengance and hate.
For some, god is about love and forgiveness.
For some, it's about how to live one's own life well.
For others, it's about how to force others to live their lives.

Like it was said, there's a little for everyone, people pick the parts they like,
and ignore the bad sides they are not interested in.

Probably what every kind of romanticised dreamy idea means to those who
believe in them; an escape or an ideal reality.
People who believe in God like to believe that everything will be alright
because someone else is up there. They want to be like children who believe
that everything will be alright because an adult, which is a being whose
thought and actions they can only mimic and not comprehend, will supposedly
look after them. Maybe God makes them feel innocent?

719 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/28(火) 20:10:41

>>718

The God is great fiction. I know it.

And the people don't want to be like a children.

You know there are so many rules of the nature.

Like THE BEING SHOULD DIE.

And the people who believe in god choose the way to addmit

the thing should happen will happen.

Finally thei abstructed these ideas as a god.

720 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/28(火) 20:11:11
>>718
God makes them feel safe. They like that there is some big daddy up in the sky that orders them around.

721 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/28(火) 20:15:33
>>719
If they don't want to be like children, why do they call themselves
"children of God"? And talk about trivial little things, like, "if
I make a mistake, God is all loving and forgiving"... that sounds like
somebody's parent, not a being of supposed wisdom and knowledge.

If there is a God, it is probably a mechanism or aspect of the universe
we cannot comprehend. That is all.

722 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/28(火) 20:18:45
I think the phrase "God set it that way" has a big pain-relieving effect,
because what it's saying is that "You are not at fault, so don't blame yourlsef,
it's your fate, because it's God who set it that way."

I wish I were a Christian, so that I could belive the phrase like that.

723 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/28(火) 20:27:05

>>721

No, We can understand what is god perfectly.

It is just a problem of psychology.

The people who long the protection of thir dad and mam form
powered poeople like king used the words.

724 :名無しさん@英語勉強中:2006/11/28(火) 20:47:47
>>722
I was raised as a Catholic, and we were taught of "Original Sin".
As I grew older, I don't believe in God now so much, at least not
as anything sentient or as a being. Like I said, perhaps God is just a word people
use for things they don't understand, like why bad things happen. It's
a sedative and the easy answer to questions in life in the form of a word.

I like reading old texts on beliefs like Stoicism. It says that if there is a god, then
it's in us. If that is true, I want to shoot god beams and holy hand grenades at people.

Maybe there was a God, but he got frustrated with people because they were being so stupid,
so he became a hikikomori. Now the angels have to leave his food by his door, and his
all-knowing wisdom slowly deteriorates as he watches bad comedy acts and mahou shoujo anime.

Besides, it always gets too hot here to do anything in summer. The beaches are always

That's what you get to see when you come down to places like Cairns
and the Gold Coast. I live in Sydney, and there are people that do surf
and scuba dive, but if you aren't into that sort of thing, than there
isn't much to do at the beach. I'm sure the Aussies that go to Japan
are active and exciting, and like to travel all around the world.
If I went to Japan, I wouldn't see any "hikikomori". I would go to all the
tourist places.

I actually don't mind being a recluse. I don't have any motivation to go out
and make something of myself in the world. Maybe in a few years, but not now.

"beatiful Japan", which I don't think is not beautiful at all.
For those who's not in the know about the goings-on of Japan,
the government of Japan held a meeting where people were

But Bono can speak Beautiful Irish English,
but boobs can't.

When boobs shake themselves, it means they are angry.
When boobs nod, it means they are happy.
When boobs are pressed against your face, it means they give
pleasure.

When boobs shake themselves, it means they are in a hurry running.
When boobs nod, it means they are old.
When boobs are pressed against your face, it means they want to suffocate you to death, LOL~~
